Hi there
We've had another busy month with seminars, training and
teleconferences, and importantly, attending the Griffith University
Mentors and Mentees breakfast with our respective mentees. Mentoring
provides wonderful opportunities that benefit both parties with
knowledge, enthusiasm and satisfaction being special components. Some
fantastic news! We are very pleased to announce that we have
formed an alliance with Franchise
Central as their preferred supplier of business and sales coaching
to their clients. There will be a Franchise Expo this Friday, Saturday
and Sunday in Brisbane at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition
Centre, and you can meet Nick and his team from Franchise Central, as
well as Dennis and myself when you pop in and check out franchising
opportunities. We
have developed specific programs to assist Franchisees and Franchisors
so read more about that here. This
month's article focuses on the opportunities that your business
provides, and where you want to take your business, from a different
angle.
Enjoy
and learn. Warm
regards,
Narelle
and Dennis
"The
4
Exit
Strategies
for
getting
the
best
return
for
the
blood,
sweat
and
tears
you
put
into
your
business"
If
you’re
running
a
successful
business
now
and
you've
been
wondering
how
to
get
the
best
return
for
your
business,
you
probably
want
to
know
what
options
you've
got.
In
the
main,
if
you
are
going
to
extract
the
most
value
from
your
business,
you've
got
4
ways
to
achieve
that.
The
4
Ways
to
Get
the
Best
Return
for
your
Blood,
Sweat
and
Tears
-
SELL
YOUR BUSINESS
This
is
a
great
way
to
extract
the
value
from
your
business,
provided
you
don't
wish
to
be
involved
any
longer.
You've
built
it
up
and
now
you
just
want
to
get
out,
right?
Pros
Your
involvement
is
over
and
you
can
do
other
things
with
your
cash
and
your
time
You
receive
a
return
that
reflects
the
value
of
your
business
at
that
time
Cons
You
don't
have
any
involvement
in
your
"baby"
any
longer
-
this
can
be
hard
for
many
business
owners
You
may
not
extract
the
full
value
you
believe
your
business
is
worth,
because
buyers
may
not
value
the
intellectual
property or goodwill,
as
highly
as
you
do.
-
DUPLICATE
YOUR BUSINESS WITH MANAGERS
Pros
You
can
expand
the
business, either with the opening of other stores that
require a manager, or
by
delegating
responsibility
to
managers.
You
receive
the
highest
return
from
future
cash flows
because
you
are
only
paying
salaries,
not
percentage
of
business.
CONS
Employees
rarely
perform
as
well
as
owners,
so
you
have
to
factor
in
a
lot
more
time,
and
resources
to
manage
the
managers.
You
have
to
fund
the
expansion either
from
your
own
financial resources or other sources,
which
may
place
a
strain
on
your
financial
position
(and
potentially
your
relationships!)
-
BRING
IN PARTNERS
Pros
You
can
expand
the
business
because
partners
will
bring
capital
in
return
for
equity.
Partners
may
bring increased support, motivation and skills as well as
increased
business prospects
because
of
their
contacts,
networks
and
experience.
Cons
You
have
to
share
control
and
decision making. What starts out as a honeymoon can turn
into a dysfunctional marriage.
You
have
legal
and
contractual
obligations
to
partners
that
may
be
difficult
and
costly
to
change
or
get
out
of
should
the
relationships
break
down.
-
FRANCHISE
Pros
You
can
expand
the
business
because
Franchisees
will
bring
capital
in
return
for
their
Franchise.
You
maintain
control
of
your
business.
You
receive
a
share
of
franchisee
turnover,
plus
gain
from
the
duplication
of
turnover.
You
are
forced
to
systemise
your
business
which
will
increase
your
revenues
and
profits
from
every
franchisee.
You
get
business
owners
with
"skin
on
the
table"
(i.e.
their
own
money
in
the
business),
so their
commitment
is
much
higher
than
employees.
You
get
many
"ideas
generators"
because
your
Franchises
will
always
be
looking
for
ways
to
improve
their
businesses,
and
by
extension,
yours.
Cons
You
have
to
concede
some
decision
making
and
control
because
your
Franchisees are a
form
of a
"partnership model"
in
your
business.
You
have
legal,
contractual
and
compliance
obligations
to
franchisees
that
you
must
meet
(which
may
assist
the
strength
of
your
business anyway.)
So
which
of
those
4
options
sound
best
to
you?
Well,
we're
biased
( we
admit that), so if
you're
already on
the
way
to
developing
the
systems
that
make
your
business a franchising
success
then
we'd
recommend
you
have
a
chat

Franchise
Central.
