About
DiSC
Daily, organizations make use of DiSC to provide a known language with which to communicate and lay the foundation for highly successful training and coaching methods for employees, managers and leaders. Detailed and individually personalised reports help people to know, understand and apply DiSC learning to business issues, particularly sales, leadership and management, customer support and relationships and conflict resolution. While
DiSC isn't a
'personality
test' in the
strict
technical
sense, it
provides an
insight into
an
individual’s
behavioural style that
is useful
when trying
to predict
their
behaviour in
the future.
DiSC does this
by
evaluating
four key
factors of
behaviour:
Dominance,
Influence,
Steadiness
and
Conscientiousness.
DISC
profile
questionnaires
contain only
twenty-four
questions,
and can
usually be
completed in
fifteen
minutes or
less. This
also
provides
advantages
in the area
of
interpretation;
DISC results
are
sufficiently
well-defined
that their
interpretation
can be
easily
explained
through the
full colour Report.
The
DISC
measures of Dominance,
Influence,
Steadiness
and
Conscientiousness.
These are
fairly
complex
characteristics,
and may be
characterised
as factors
related to assertiveness,
communication,
patience and
structure.
The
real power
of DISC,
though,
comes from
its ability
to interpret
the
relations
between
these
factors. For
example,
where a
highly
Dominant
person has
an equally
high level
of
Influence,
they will
behave quite
differently
to an
equally
Dominant
individual
without that
Influence.
The factors
combine to
provide
(theoretically)
around one
million
different
'profiles'
(that is,
combinations
of the four
factors).
Using this information, DISC can be used to describe a person's general approach, including their motivations and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and some of the basic assumptions they make about other people. It can also go far in helping to predict how a person will react to a specific set of circumstances.
